Very UNUSUAL ! These plants produce MULTIPLE BLOOMS along their stems - unlike many other varieties of sunflowers. They will continue to produce prolific blooms throughout the growing season!
"Evening Sun" Sunflowers are prolific bloomers and change colors & shades over time. We have been growing these flowers for several years and are amazed at all the shades & variations of burgundy, yellow, orange, salmon & red & combinations thereof. Some are solid, some "striped". Specifically, in our garden, the sunflowers attract all kinds of bees, hummingbirds, butterflies, moths, beneficial insects, yellow finches, orioles, robins, blackbirds, scrub jays, sparrows and other seed-eating birds we haven't yet identified.
I harvested and hand-sorted these seeds from our own healthy plants.
Sunflowers grow pretty tall if given good soil, water, and of course full sun! They are ideal for hedgerows, "privacy screens", fences, truly ANYWHERE you like to create visual delight. They have long blooming cycles & even the dried branches can be used for crafts or fuel (ie, kindling).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Other notes~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Open-pollinated, non-hybrid & non-gmo. We use no pesticides or herbicides (ie, "round-up") in our garden. Did you know that drawing beneficial insects to your garden with various flowers & herbs is a natural & non-harmful way to keep "bad" bugs at bay? In other words..... when you plant herbs & flowers amongst your vegetable plants you will be attracting insects like lady bugs, praying mantis, lacewings, soldier beetles, etc..... These beneficial insects love to eat things like aphids & other plant devourers. So instead of the pesky pests eating up your garden & your food the good bugs will be dining on them instead :) Perhaps many people already know this fact but for the new gardener or one who is accustomed to using chemical pesticides and herbicides this is a good thing to know. When we use man-made chemicals in our gardens we hurt the beneficial insects (including bees, which we need for pollination & honey, etc....) & all those chemicals DO end up going into the ground & possibly the ground-water, streams, rivers, lakes & oceans eventually. This is harmful both short-term & long-term to people and animals as well. I highly recommend learning organic & natural gardening methods to be good stewards of the land entrusted to our care. With the internet we have at our fingertips it is VERY easy to get educated on these natural methods of gardening.
