The mature fruit grow to approximately 7 to 9 inches & 4 inches in diameter. The flesh is fine-textured & typically light orange...... very flavorful.
You can slice across the diameter or cut lengthwise - it's up to you! We like to marinate in a little grape seed oil & herbs & seasonings & grill or stuff with rice or quinoa, top with cheese & broil ..... whatever suits your fancy!
Delicata are one of the finest tasting squash we've ever eaten & we've been growing these beautiful squash for a few years now. Some people say that they taste similar to a really fabulous potato :) It is a VERY popular squash.
A few notably great features: ** SHORTER MORE COMPACT VINES ** FLAVORFUL! the flavor of delicata squash is unique; almost "potato-like". ** VERSATILE grill, bake, saute, stuff, etc.... The texture is firm enough to cut in thin slices & cook on the barbecue grill. ** EASY STORAGE No need to cure them like other squash.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Other Notes~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We use no pesticides or herbicides (ie, "round-up") in our garden. Did you know that drawing beneficial insects to your garden with various flowers & herbs is a natural & non-harmful way to keep "bad" bugs at bay? In other words..... when you plant herbs & flowers amongst your vegetable plants you will be attracting insects like lady bugs, praying mantis, lacewings, soldier beetles, etc..... These beneficial insects love to eat things like aphids & other plant devourers. So instead of the pesky pests eating up your garden & your food the good bugs will be dining on them instead :) Perhaps many people already know this fact but for the new gardener or one who is accustomed to using chemical pesticides and herbicides this is a good thing to know. When we use man-made chemicals in our gardens we hurt the beneficial insects (including bees, which we need for pollination & honey, etc....) & all those chemicals DO end up going into the ground & possibly the ground-water, streams, rivers, lakes & oceans eventually. This is harmful both short-term & long-term to people and animals as well. I highly recommend learning organic & natural gardening methods to be good stewards of the land entrusted to our care. With the internet we have at our fingertips it is VERY easy to get educated on these natural methods of gardening.
Nice, healthy-looking clean seeds were delivered very quickly. Can’t wait to get them in the ground. I ate this type of squash at a very fancy Vegetarian restaurant once and enjoyed it and have been looking for seeds to grow my own for years. At last!!!
