Amazing 19th century fabric remnant, probably from a curtain; wonderful as a collectible or to incorporate into an art piece. It is lightweight cotton printed in red, mauve, and brown-grey on an age-yellowed white or cream background. Measures 32" wide selvage to selvage, by 14". It comes from an estate sale with some very unusual antique textiles. PLEASE NOTE CONDITION: This piece shows its age and needs gentle handling. There is noticeable yellowing and streaking. There are a few small tears near one selvage (last photo), one of which was mended by hand long ago with tiny stitches. There is also a minute hole, smaller than pinhead size, about 12" from the edge. We have given this antique textile a gentle hand laundering with mildest detergent, so it is ready for your very special project.
ABOUT OUR VINTAGE TEXTILES: We take great care in handling vintage textiles. Unless otherwise noted, our items are gently laundered using mild, earth-safe detergents, and carefully pressed as needed. We use no harsh chemicals and no starch, as these contribute to the deterioration of fine textiles over time. We treat some spots and stains using traditional, all-natural methods, but prefer to leave--and carefully describe--small flaws rather than risk damage to the fibers by removing them completely.
