Very Rare Imperial Printing Press by the Cope, Sherwin & Company
Old Cast Iron Printing Press very heavy beautiful ornate iron castings
It a lovely old press over 150 years old has been set up in the past for hot foil gold leaf book binding can be altered easily back for lino/etching/ collagraph printing
This would be a great center piece for any working Artist studio
Used in an Artist Studio recently but needs light TLC needs stripping and cleaning to bring back to full glory
THE IMPERIAL PRESS
Cope, Sherwin & Company designed and built the Imperial press in Shoreditch, London, for only a short time. Although the Imperial shares a number of similarities with the Albion, the Imperial is the more powerful press due to its leverage system which is influenced by Stanhope. A leaf spring raises the platen of the Imperial while the Albion employs a coil spring located in its cap. Currently set up to be Used for hot press embossing
The J. Cope & Sherwin Imperial Press was claimed to be type William Morris used and favored
But can be easily converted to an letterpress and able to print etchings etc
