In this technique based project you will learn how to colour velvet with dye-na-flow colours, use stencils and discharging, collage ideas using foils and lots of tips and ideas for machine embroidery. It's helpful if you have done a bit of machine embroidery before.
Materials and equipment
White or pale coloured velvet I use cotton velvet because it can take all the repeated ironing that you must do for this project.
Fusible interfacing (firm iron on Vilene)
3 pump spray bottles
Dye-na-Flow inks heat fixable… Golden yellow, hot fuchsia.
Black Quink ink
Good quality thickened bleach
Compass and pencil
Funky foam/a cork/Mountboard/PVA to make print block
Sweetie (candy) foils
Acrylic paint I used Dayler Rowney…pistachio
A selection of (heat transferable) transfoils
Organza…I used a shot pink.
Metallic and coloured embroidery threads
Sewing Machine and threads
Stranded metallic thread
Free machine embroidery foot or darning foot
Iron and ironing pad
Basic sewing kit scissors, needles pins etc.
Hot air tool (optional)
