Item details

Vermont Fine Primitive Late 1700s - Early 1800s All Hand Made Rare Longer Marking Gauge Tool. This fine marking gauge was made by a furniture and chair maker from the late 1700s - Early 1800s. The shop was located in Danville, Vermont. This very early gauge tool with another rare tool was also found from the same estate. A founder and curator of a large tool museum has dated this Marking Gauge tool. I was also told that this is exceptionally very rare, 1 of a kind of museum quality, a beauty.

This is a scarce well made marking gauge tool to find today. The beam looks to be made out of a maple or birch wood. The fence is made from a piece of wood burl and has a threaded thumb screw and is all hand forged. There is a pin on the bottom of the fence and a cutting edge or scribe edge through the spindle. Perfect for the rare tool collector, museum piece, furniture makers workshop etc.

Size:
17 1/2" length

Excellent condition commensurate with being a early Primitive piece, No breakage, missing parts, very solid in working condition and clean well taken care of.

We describe items as honestly and thoroughly as possible~ Please take a look at all pictures and read the full descriptions carefully. When we describe the condition, we mean compared to anything else which is Old. Any Primitives, Antique or Vintage Treasures will have some sign's of character. This is because of it's age and usage which somebody has treasured dearly and saved from many earlier years. These items are not perfect nor brand new.
We do not claim to know every thing about what we sell. We do a lot of research on all items that we sell and that is the fun part! To know the what, where, how, and why of the items that we list. If we are not 100% sure what something is, we will use words like I believe, or something of that nature.
We have been hunting for treasures for over 35 years, but we are not as old as some of the items that we find and sell. It is also up to the buyer to do his or her research on what they are buying.
If you have any questions you can e-mail us, we will do our part to help any way that we can. If you see that we have a item for sale and are not sure what it really is and you know, we would love to here from you~ Thank you
