Sea/Beach Ceramic antique 19thC shards from a river beach on the Potomac in Virginia. Chinese, German, English imports among them, some are hand painted, some transfer ware, all fare rom the 1800s and earlier.
Long ago this backwoods river shore was location where refuse barges out of Washington D.C. would unload the broken glass, ceramic, and porcelain housewares, dolls, and other items of the United States Capital. Stirred by the river current and the far reaching tidal effect, this group and another lot (entirely of porcelain and etc.) which I am listing presently, are nicely aged and contain some unusual markings (some transfer-some hand painted), crazing, effects of time, water, and fire. Pieces include conspicuous candidates for jewelry projects, assemblage, &c.
Estimating this lot to be THREE and a HALF POUNDS of the very items you see in the photos.
