A wonderful roving for spinning or felting, hand painted in the Midwest using low-impact professional acid dyes. This roving features Shades of Dusty Pink, Berry, Grey, Bright Yellow, and a touch of Blue.
In fact, this particular Suri Alpaca in this roving was grown right here in the state of Michigan, and the ratio of Suri to Merino fiber is about 50/50. Suri Alpaca fiber is known for it's sheen and drape, and the Merino in this blend helps give spring and memory to roving. It has been minimally processed and as a result, has a bit of Vegetable Matter (VM) in it that can be picked out easily while spinning. VM can be described as tiny particles of hay or other vegetation that the sheep and alpaca come into contact with during the course of growing their fleece.
Top Vs. Roving Top is processed in such a way that all of the wool fibers are lined up and perfectly parallel to one another, which allows for spinning worsted or semi-worsted yarns. Roving, on the other hand, has fibers that are oriented in many different directions. This varied orientation results in a yarn that has more air pockets and will be, in general, warmer than a worsted yarn of similar diameter.
**Please bear in mind that while every effort was made to capture the accurate color of this top, colors will vary from monitor to monitor. In addition, while colorways can be reproduced, each hand painted top is unique.
