Baseball in Music and Magazines Through the Years
What fun you could have with these six beautiful 11.5 x 9 inch color photographs reflecting the richness and tradition of baseball as expressed through music and periodicals. Amongst them are two clever montage photographs bringing together artifacts relating to "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" and "Casey at the Bat". Photos salvaged from books published with the cooperation of the Baseball Hall of Fame at Cooperstown. Suitable for framing, of course, or let your creative imagination run wild while honoring both the grand old game and those who love it.
Also part of the package are three 12 x 10 reproductions of historical newspapers. They chronicle the Boston Braves game three victory in the 1914 Fall Classic beside forboding headlines of German gains in the first months of World War I; the 1917 World Series victory of the Chicago White Sox over the Giants of New York; and the breaking news of the Black Sox Scandal in 1919. Check out in the attached photo how well the 1917 headline goes with the color image of the World Series program that is a part of the set.
Seventeen facsimiles of vintage baseball cards are also part of this set. They include copies of Hall of Famers Cy Young, Clark Griffith, Ed Roush, Casey (Charles) Stengel, Walter Johnson, Reub Waddell, and Harry Hooper, as well as White Sox immortals Ray Schalk, Ed Walsh, Charlie Comiskey, and Luke Appling. [Note: A facsimile card of Eddie Plank is pictured but when I realized that we ate at a restaurant in Gettysburg PA named after him in 2013, I switched him for another card.]
