This listing is for a Victorian French Ivory (plastic) folding grooming tool. French Ivory is also known as Ivorine, Ivoire de Paris, Ivorette and other various trade names that allude to its resemblance to natural ivory, the material was popular because of its ivory color and affordability.
This grooming tool was made to look like a scrimshaw piece, with the carved design highlighted in black ink. The design is of a flower with vining leaves, inside a detailed frame, on both sides of the case. There is also a heart, more vining leaves and an "X" carved on the spine of the piece.
These Victorian grooming tools were generally given to sweethearts or family members as gifts. The tools, which swivel out like the blade of a pocket knife, were used as tooth picks and to groom fingernails with.
The condition of this piece is excellent, with no chips, or cracks, or worn areas. The plastic has naturally yellowed and darkened over the 100 plus years since it was made, which is normal for French Ivory. The three tools seem to be in good shape, one blade has a more blunt end and is not as pointed as the other two blades, so a very small amount of the point may have been broken off, or it may have been made that way, it's hard to tell.
This lovely example of a Victorian Folding Grooming Tool is 2 1/8" long and is 3/16" thick.
For anyone who collects Victorian era grooming tools this is a piece you'll definitely want to add to your collection.

Returns & exchanges
If the item is post marked for return within 5 calendar days from the delivery confirmation date, all items I sell may be returned (unless otherwise noted as a "final sale", or "Not Returnable", in the listing.) I feel this is a reasonable amount of time for you to decide whether or not you'd like to keep the item. Refunds will be issued for purchase price only, postage is not refundable (unless the item was damaged during shipping.)
Please contact me to let me know that you are making a return before you ship an item back. This will alert me to keep an eye out for your parcel to be delivered and to notify you in the event your parcel fails to arrive.
It is the buyer's responsibility to pay for return postage (unless the item was damaged during shipping.)
I can not be held responsible for a parcel the buyer ships back, therefore to avoid complications I would suggest that you insure the item you're returning for the full purchase price.
Refunds will be given after I've received the item and have found it to be in the original condition it was in when shipped to the buyer. (If the item you receive is damaged in the mail please contact me and I will give you further instructions on how to proceed.)
IF YOU HAVE ALLERGIES, PLEASE NOTE...
I live with clean, indoor pets, who rescued me (a White Shepherd and two cats). Because of this there is a distinct possibility that your parcel may contain a dog or cat hair. I ALWAYS try to be very careful not to let that happen, but I can't guarantee that it won't.
