When I was a child, I had a lovely, tall, willowy blonde aunt. To my dumpy little sixth grade self, she seemed the epitome of elegance and class. Not only was she beautiful and popular, but also very nice. She would let me try on some of her things, a necklace, her rings. I remember a beautifully crocheted shawl, in particular, in palest pink, that she wrapped me in before exclaiming how nice it looked on me. "That color really suits you," she said. Since then, I've been partial to pink.
I created this pattern in honor of both my aunt - not quite so willowy now, and I'm about her same height, but still one of the loveliest people I know - and of that childhood memory. The original shawl is long gone, but I wanted to create something to evoke that same feeling of being both lovely and loved, wrapped in palest pink.
This pattern will help you create a lovely shawl for you to wrap yourself in. I named the pattern for the floral stitch that makes up the body of the shawl, as well as the fact that my aunt was a bit of a hippy. The edges drip in bohemian fringe, a la Stevie Nicks, and the fringe is embellished with silver and glass beads, just to add to the "flower power" feel. The finished shawl is delicate and lightweight, and appropriate for both day or evening wear, or whenever you want to feel lovely, tall, and willowy.
The shawl can also be made into a poncho.
Difficulty Level: This pattern requires an intermediate understanding of crochet.
Finished measurements It is sized to fit older teens and adults; the finished measurements are about 82" across by 38" long, not including the fringe.
