Lustrous hand-dyed Blue Faced Leicester wool (BFL) 80% blended with bamboo 10% and sari silk waste 10% using a method that leaves little pops of color as accents, somewhat like a tweed but much softer than your Harris tweeds will ever be! The color is a rich and subtle mulberry, not quite as bright as raspberry and mixable with a wide range of colors. This listing for one skein, 3 ply sport weight, 200 yards. BFL is a long stapled lustrous wool that is more durable than merino with less tendency to pill but still with next to skin softness. Coupled with silk and bamboo, all three fibers create drape in this yarn, but there is sufficient crimp in the wool for elasticity and memory. Think lace knits, scarves, shawls, but also fingerless mitts, a slouch hat, a dressy cardigan. Care instructions, wash cool, no agitation. This is not superwash! Lay flat to dry.
As always, the fiber source for our animal fibers is from a small family farm here in the US. We know the people raising these animals, and they are some of the most loving and hard working people out there! When you choose to buy US fiber, you support families that continue a great agricultural tradition, a wonderful way of life in our communities, and improved sustainability from natural products, handled with the least amount of environmental impact.
