Yin Yang Checkerboard is a patchwork block in which the image of the tai chi symbol (also popularly referred to as the yin yang symbol) appears on a checkerboard grid. In the classic tai chi symbol, yin is represented by black and yang by white, and black and white are also found in a classic checkerboard. This quilt block design introduces color, but in a way that maintains the darkness of yin, the lightness of yang and a similar contrast between the two colors of a checkerboard.
The block measures 16 inches square when finished. After the desired number of blocks are joined together, a 2-inch wide border completes the checkerboard image. A single block with a 2-inch border can be used as the final block unit, measuring 20 inches square when finished. That layout option is illustrated in the pattern with an additional quilt border and matching sashing strips. This 6-page PDF pattern includes many colored diagrams, detailed instructions and a chart of pieces needed for each block.
When you purchase this pattern, you will also receive my free 5-page PDF tool for calculating yardage, shown in the last product image. This Yardage Calculator will not only guide you in determining your yardage requirements, but it will also guide you in cutting pieces for your quilt from strips. You can use this tool with any quilt pattern, not just with my designs.
