In 1893, Mary, seen in photo, got engaged and her family received this greeting from four separate well-wishers who appear to be relatives. The masthead is from the M.Friedmann & Sons Wholesale Clothiers, corner of Baltimore Street and Hopkins Place, Baltimore. Mr Friedmann penned the first note, but his writing is illegible to me and may be in Yiddish. This is Menka Friedmann who upon passing in 1903 was referred to in the New York Times as a "prominent Jewish philanthropist". Luckily he did not live to see his business consumed in the great Baltimore fire of 1904. A Happy New Years notecard in English and Hebrew, blank but for the first page, is included but again, illegible TO ME. The accompanying photograph (Aunt Mary written in pencil on reverse) comes from the Towles Art Galleries, which I would posit may be the forerunner of the well-known Towles Studio in Washington,DC. Own these three pieces of baltimore Jewish life in the late 1800's. Single sheet with masthead measures 9" by 5 3/8", the notecard (unopened ) measures 4 1/2' by 3 1/8" and the photo is 3 3/4"squared. All show wear and a little dirt.

Returns & exchanges
Altoonafish Vintage makes every effort to adequately describe any wear or damage on items, but "condition" is a subjective term. Therefore let me clearly state, all items are at least 25 years old, some nearly 100 years old, and depending on materials used, they will show some wear. This is documented both in written description and photographs and additional photos of areas of concern can be requested. Altoonafish will NEVER deliberatley misrepresent an item, but anyone in a universe of millions of items can make a mistake, so let's talk. I will refund (less return S & H),if item is truly NOT as described, but again, let's talk. Always ask questions up front if you are in doubt. We at Altoonafish Vintage want your transaction to be a pleasant one.
