Item details

White Sage (Salvia apiana) is definitely the most valued and admired sage in North America. It is considered sacred – bordering magical – to indigenous peoples throughout the continent. The traditional burning – or smudging – of the dried leaves is said to cleanse and purify the spirit, and bring harmony and peace to those blanketed in the aromatic smoke. One is impelled to have clarity of thought and intention when lighting a bundle of White Sage for the purpose of purification. The aroma of the sticky, resinous leaves, as well as the smoke from the burning leaves, is unmistakable and powerful.

Medicinally, White Sage is valued for its antiseptic, anti-bacterial, and anti-parasitic qualities. Herbalist Michael Moore writes, "[White Sage]...is effective against staph, candida, and Klebsiella pheumoniae – three bugs that cover a wide range of conditions.” The leaves are best tinctured, as the majority of White Sage’s active constituents are not water-soluble. A decoction of the leaves, however, is still quite effective at soothing a sore throat when drunken or gargled. A steam inhalation can help clear a chest cold.

White Sage is a proud plant in the garden as well, growing up to eight feet tall. The silvery-blue foliage seems to glow, particularly under a full moon. The flowers are very attractive to bees and other pollinators. Hold off on harvesting any leaves until the plant is very well established; white Sage can be sensitive to over-harvesting.

Please note: White Sage is a wild plant, thus a naturally lower germinator. Current germination rate is 32%, so plan your growing accordingly.

utilizzero' l'articolo a primavera, ma sono soddisfatta dei tempi di spedizione non troppo lunghi; il cimelio sopracitato non l'ho ricevuto, pazienza, grazie comunque.

Additional policies

We are our own customers: farmer/gardeners who face the numerous challenges of growing quality, productive crops within ecological agriculture settings. We founded All Good Things Organic Seeds to offer quality vegetable, herb, and flower seeds adapted to organic growing conditions. The seed varieties we offer in our catalog are sourced directly from our farm in Ojai, California and other farms that reflect our agriculture ethic:

-We exclusively offer certified organic, untreated non-GMO varieties in our catalog. We are certified organic by Oregon Tilth.
-We do on-farm grow-outs and trials of every variety we sell, listing only those that display vigor, productivity, disease resistance and variety-specific uniformity.
-We understand plant breeding as an evolving, rather than static process. The varieties we offer are constantly being adapted and improved for the needs of a changing world.
-We perform germination tests on all seed lots every eight months to insure our customers are delivered viable, high-quality seeds.
-Our seeds are stored in climate-controlled conditions to ensure their long-term viability.

We are also advocates of the Safe Seed Pledge, innovated by High Mowing Organic Seeds in 1999:

Agriculture and seeds provide the basis upon which our lives depend. We must protect this foundation as a safe and genetically stable source for future generations. For the benefit of all farmers, gardeners and consumers who want an alternative, we pledge that we do not knowingly buy or sell genetically engineered seeds or plants. The mechanical transfer of genetic material outside of natural reproductive methods and between genera, families or kingdoms poses great biological risks, as well as economic, political and cultural threats. We feel that genetically engineered varieties have been insufficiently tested prior to public release. More research and testing is necessary to further assess the potential risks of genetically engineered seeds. Further, we wish to support agricultural progress that leads to healthier soils, genetically diverse agricultural ecosystems and ultimately healthy people and communities.
