Victorian women lived days of grueling labor, particularly when it came to doing laundry. Hand washing each item with a washboard, wringing clothes of water, hanging to dry. These chores comprised an all-day chore. But the modern, progressive Victorian woman was now supposed to make time for the social, spiritual and emotional life of her family as well and with the help of certain products, she might have the spare time to do so by 9 AM ! This line of advertising was popular in products aimed towards women, with one product even calling itself the "Nine O'Clock Washing-Tea" (as in washing powder). Use of this modern, hygienic product would have your laundry on the line by the magic morning hour, a selling point reinforced by the ubiquitous clock face and the jingle "When the hour hand points to nine, have your washing on the line". Here is a premium mailer envelope, postmarked 1913, containing a cutesy trade card and a blank form to be mailed, along with 12 packaging clock faces, for one of 6 beautiful rings.(Implied message - less laundry washing = prettier hands). Mailer has tear on flap but otherwise (except for age tanning) , all three paper items here in good condition.

Returns & exchanges
Altoonafish Vintage makes every effort to adequately describe any wear or damage on items, but "condition" is a subjective term. Therefore let me clearly state, all items are at least 25 years old, some nearly 100 years old, and depending on materials used, they will show some wear. This is documented both in written description and photographs and additional photos of areas of concern can be requested. Altoonafish will NEVER deliberatley misrepresent an item, but anyone in a universe of millions of items can make a mistake, so let's talk. I will refund (less return S & H),if item is truly NOT as described, but again, let's talk. Always ask questions up front if you are in doubt. We at Altoonafish Vintage want your transaction to be a pleasant one.
