Box of 17(of 20) large copper nose rings. Yep. These nose rings were designed to prevent the hogs from rooting in the dirt and they were and are widely used. Humane? I am not sure about that, but they are a part of agricultural history and this is an early box. They were produced at the Humane Hog Ring company at Winona Lake, Indiana.
I have seen them used for kinder purposes, such as fixtures and other upholstery applications, and the box would make a neat little display with the hog graphic on the front. It even has an advertisement on the bottom for the humane hog catcher!
Box is in good shape but with wear and discoloration to authenticate its age. One of the tabs broke off as I opened it to count the rings :0(
