Clarence Coles Phillips (October 1880 – June 13, 1927) was an American artist and illustrator who worked under the name, Coles Phillips. He is known for his use of negative space. His signature style, the "fadeaway girl" design was a figure whose clothing matched, and disappeared into, the background. He work was used for both advertisements and magazine covers.
