This warm-white Rambouillet/Suffolk wool roving is a terrific all-purpose fiber at a great price. It comes from ewes raised on my family's ranch in central Wyoming, the woolies were shorn by a local shearing crew, and the raw fleeces were processed into roving by Mountain Meadow Wool Mill in Buffalo. Yep, this product is 100% Wyoming from start to finish.
We have thousands (yes, thousands) of sheep who spend most of their time grazing on the open range, unless it's shearing time in February or lambing time in March. The third picture shows some sheep as they are waiting to be shorn. When you have lots of sheep you need lots of good sheep dogs to keep an eye on things! The fourth picture is of some yearlings lined up at the feeder right after they've been shorn. The final picture shows our bales of wool being loaded on to a semi and sent off to market. Each of those bales weighs around 500 pounds...that's A LOT of wool on that truck!
This roving was made from the 12 finest and cleanest fleeces from our 2012 shearing, but because our sheep are not blanketed (...can you imagine putting blankets on that many sheep?...) you should expect some light VM in the roving. In my experience this washes right out. Our sheep are raised for both their meat and their wool, which makes the Rambouillet/Suffolk cross a perfect combination - especially for our harsh climate. The Rambouillet genetics provide a longer staple and softer fiber, and the Suffolk genetics improve the quality of the meat and increase the durability of the wool. Although Suffolk wool is slightly courser than Rambouillet wool, it has a great spongy quality that adds a lot of loft. In general, our fleeces are in the 20-21 micron range. It's probably not soft enough for next-to-the-skin wear for everybody, but it can be used for just about ANYTHING else: spinning a big, squishy novelty yarn, felting, dyeing, weaving or braiding rugs. If you're looking for a great all-purpose fiber you can get in large (ok, very large) quantities directly from the folks who raised it, then this is for you.

Beautiful fiber! I will for sure be buying more in the future!
Orders will be shipped through the USPS unless otherwise requested. If you would like your package shipped FedEx or UPS, then it may be delayed 1-2 days until the package can be picked up by the requested carrier. If you wish to place an order for an item that weighs more than 8 oz., please Convo me with your order as well as your shipping zip code and I will create a special listing just for you. This is the best way for me to provide an accurate shipping cost for larger amounts. Please be sure to read each listing carefully in case there is any special information related to the shipping of that item.
In a further effort to keep shipping costs down, your order will be securely sealed in a plastic sack and then compressed into as small of a box or envelope as possible for shipping. Your order will not be damaged during this process, but it is a good idea to open the box or envelope immediately upon receipt to allow the fiber to puff back up again. If you leave the fibers in a highly compressed state to store them their quality will be effected and you likely will not be pleased with the outcome. Sorry, no refunds or exchanges will be offered for items that have been damaged due to improper storage.
If your package fails to arrive, or if it arrives and you discover the contents are damaged, please contact me immediately so that we can resolve the issue with the shippers and I can provide you with a replacement order if necessary.
