Item details

A variety of shapes and textures, all five beads share the translucent green glaze with just a hint of crackle. This bundle is made up of one drop one flat oval one fluted and two plain round beads that have holes large enough for 2 mm cord. The glaze on these beads blends well with stone, wood, glass or fiber beads.

The listing is for the five beads in the pictures.

I formed each of these beads by hand using porcelain or stoneware clays. They are then textured, and cleaned up before their first firing in the kiln. Next they are stained, glazed and cleaned up one more time. For the last step they are suspended on wires so they are not touching anything or each other and fired fired in a raku kiln to almost 2000 F.

The beads are pulled from the kiln when they are red hot and put in an airtight container with combustible material. The resulting fire consumes the oxygen in the container. This lack of oxygen causes the metallic and iridescent effect associated with raku. Each firing is unique and the results can vary widely.

The last step is to scrub each bead with a toothbrush to remove the residue from the fire. Now they are ready for you to use in your jewelry designs.
