This is a beautiful yarn bowl. The maple is quite uniform and blond in color. The grain is homogeneous and reveals the characteristic maple rays. The surfaces of the bowl were smoothed to 1200 grit before finishing with wax followed by a hard shellac. This treatment assures that the bowl will not catch or drag on yarn during use. The surface of this yarn bowl feels smooth and is a pleasure to touch. The wall of the bowl is curved toward the interior which keeps the yarn ball inside the bowl while eliminating the need for a yarn slot. The bowl measures 4.6 inch (11.7 cm) inside diameter, 5.7 inch (14.5 cm) outside diameter, 3.0 inch (7.6 cm) height from lip to bottom, and 2.6 inch (6.6 cm) deep. Of course, the yarn and sock shown are for illustrative purposes only and are not included with purchase of the bowl.

I want you enjoy your article as much as I enjoyed making it. Please understand that wood changes dimension and moves in response to climate and weather. If there are any problems with materials or craftsmanship please contact me directly so we can mutually resolve the issue.

Even after it has been cut and dried wood continues to move and breathe with the climate and seasons. I do my best to account for this attribute in my work. I emphasize natural features or defects in the wood. When I find an internal branch, scar, crack, or other apparent defect that was not visible in the living tree, I try to make that feature a part of the design of the piece. This often means that the design must be substantially changed at the lathe in order to preserve the newly discovered feature. You should understand that this is a natural property of woods and that your piece will likely be subject to such seasonal movements.
My standard practice is to emphasize the color, pattern, and texture of the wood. This means that I sometimes do not apply a finish to the wood. A consequence is that the final surface is often smoother and more natural in appearance than would be observed if a finish had been applied.
If you have any questions or discussion about the surface, finish, or appearance of your item or about cracks, movement, or change of dimension related to climate or season, please contact me.
All of this means that wood is delicate and it is not intended for rough use or handling. All of my pieces are NOT intended to be put into dish washers, microwave ovens, cat boxes, other similar devices, or outdoors without protection from weather. Some wood species change color, shape, or texture after exposure to sunlight and so your piece should not be exposed to the sun for prolonged periods. Your piece should not be washed with detergents or other agents suitable for cleaning other materials.
I hope that you will be as pleased using and enjoying your item as I was making it for you.
