This listing is for one ounce. Pale fawn or light "blond" Suri alpaca locks very silky, 6" in length, some are slightly longer. This is raw fiber meaning it has not been washed and therefore may have a little dust but is not full of debris. It can be washed easily with a few drops of mild dish soap or mild shampoo in cool water, do not agitate, air dry. These locks are fairly straight and a few parts of my remaining locks have some curl or save on the tips.
Suri alpaca comprise about 10% of the US alpaca population and are characterized by their long silky dreadlocks in contrast to the fluffy teddy bear appearance of huacaya alpaca. The fiber may have a tiny wave or slight curl in each tip but has no crimp. It is silky soft in feel, drapey. It makes beautiful realistic baby hair or fashion doll hair. The natural colors in this fleece demonstrate a range of pale "blond."
I am changing all of my listings for locks to provide you with additional information regarding animal fiber used for doll hair. While I strive to provide you exactly what you need, it has come to my attention that some of my customers making doll wigs seek a specific lock structure in suri alpaca, while others may wish to have washed, combed fiber. Sometimes I have had customers who wanted one color of blond and not another. However, it is impossible for me to mechanically produce exactly what each individual wants. Fleeces vary even within the individual animal. I will use a designation of light blond or medium blond, light fawn or medium fawn, for all "blond" fiber. I am gradually replacing pictures to show current colors and will try to get the most accurate color representation that I can, but monitors show colors differently.
These are rare fleeces that are hard to get and comparatively expensive. Usually, the long fleeces of suri alpaca that I am selling for doll wigs are more than one year growth. I must buy these fleeces from a range of breeders across the country, and I cannot inspect each fleece on site. Over time I have learned who I can rely on for fleece quality and accuracy of description, but even then there is natural variation present. Each fleece must then be hand sorted, which means I pick through it, do multiple spot checks to measure length of fiber, separate good fiber that is simply too short and can be used in spinning, fiber that is coarse that will be used for rugs, and the prized locks that you want. To qualify as doll hair, it must be long enough, healthy, and acceptably soft. While doing so, I remove any obvious larger pieces of hay, but you may get a tiny piece. I bag up one ounce plus bags (yes, I measure extra for you in case some bit is not OK). I do not wash most of this fiber, only white fiber that I am going to dye. Washing in general affects the lock structure. I do not comb it. In my experience, most of my customers can get better value making the wig and washing and combing it during their process, including less waste of fiber. If you want washed and combed, there are excellent shops providing this service.
International shipping costs are difficult to estimate, but I have switched to etsy pricing on shipping to try and be more accurate. We always refund significant over charges for shipping. If for some reason you are not satisfied or want to return your fiber, I do accept returns and exchanges. I encourage you to look at international shipping rates before you do, because postage is at your expense. While this may discourage some of my European customers, I apologize, but I have included the above statements to give you the most realistic expectations I can provide about an animal product that is unique to each animal and produced in uncontrolled circumstances.
