'Edwardian Rose' antique sewing Pattern #1912-C-003, in digital (PDF) format, for a fancy Titanic era little girl's "lingerie" dress, embellished with lace, pintucks, a detachable lace collar, and a satin sash. The dress fastens at the back with small buttons (see 4th photo). The photos above show the dress with and without the fancy lace collar attached.

SIZE: This pattern is drafted in one size only, and will fit a child about 5 to 8 years old -- see measurement chart on envelope cover (use the zoom feature to see details). The sizing is quite flexible within the range of measurements shown, and the dress can easily be lengthened or shortened (instructions included).

Little girls in the Edwardian era were dressed in frills, lace and ribbons just as fine as those used in women's clothing. These "Lingerie Dresses", of sheer, lightweight batiste with Valenciennes and other laces as embellishment, were extremely popular throughout the Edwardian period.

Please note that this listing is for the digital girl's dress pattern, not the finished garment shown in the photos. ;-)

This pattern, like all my 'Edwardian Rose' patterns, is taken from an authentic historical source, in this case a design in an early 1912 French fashion publication. Aside from grading the pattern for modern sizing, no changes are made to the original cut of the garment. To find out more about the process of developing an Edwardian Rose pattern, see my Shop Owner details.

This digital pattern is not a diagram or scaled-down sketch that you have to enlarge. Once you print it out and assemble the printed pages, you have a regular FULL-SIZE pattern that can be immediately cut out and sewn. It is exactly the same as my paper pattern, but in PDF format, offered at a lower price than the paper version, and of course with no shipping cost!

How does an instant digital download work? See: for details.

This PDF pattern can be printed on any home inkjet or laser printer. Printing and assembling is easy, and full instructions for printing your pattern are included.

The digital download files also provide you with my detailed sewing instructions (in English), including historical information on the garment, suggested fabrics, a guide to yardage and notion requirements, and step-by-step construction details (including a set of photos showing some of the construction points). A copy of the pattern envelope cover (with the antique sketch) is also included in the download package.

The only thing that is not included in my patterns are layout sketches for the various fabric widths, since these would be very time-consuming to anticipate and draw out, would increase the cost of the patterns significantly and more than double the time needed to produce each design. (Unlike Vogue or Butterick, I unfortunately don't have a staff of graphic artists on hand!).

The pictures above show the dress as made from this pattern as it would have been in 1912, in a semi-sheer, lightweight cotton voile with Valenciennes and other laces and a satin sash. The pattern includes the draped satin sash.

Recommended Sewing Skill Level: (3/5 - Intermediate). If you have reasonably good sewing skills but haven't yet tried making an authentic Edwardian little girl's dress, I recommend giving this pattern a try. The beautiful finished garment is well worth the time and care of construction.

This lovely dress would be perfect for a flower-girl's dress at an Edwardian themed wedding, or give the pattern as a gift to an heirloom sewing enthusiast!

Just as described. Pattern and all the helps to make sure it is easily readable were great!

Additional policies

Custom Order Policies:

On most custom garment orders a 50% deposit will be required to cover the cost of fabrics and trims to be purchased for the project, and for my initial time input. If you choose fabrics that I have on hand in my stock, only a 30% deposit will be required.

Please convo me or use the "Request Custom Order" feature to make a request. Once all details have been agreed, including final price, I'll provide you with the expected completion and delivery dates and will set up a Custom Order listing for the deposit.

I'll keep you informed of my progress on the project, and once completed, I'll create a second Custom Order listing for the remainder of payment, which will be posted on Etsy at a mutually agreed date and time. The listing will remain posted for 24 hours, and payment is expected within 2 days, after which time I will list the item for open sale on Etsy or eBay at a price I set.

I can create a custom garment from practically any pattern design in my 'Edwardian Rose' antique pattern line, provided your measurements fall within the range shown on the pattern. I will consider custom-fitting an order outside those sizes, at additional cost.

Commissions for custom work are completed in the order in which they are received. Because I accept only a few commissions per year, 5 to 8 weeks is the usual completion time, depending upon complexity of the design.
