This is a large single press moulded bead in black clay that has been decorated with opaque white glaze and platinum lustre highlighting the glaze edges. The contrast between the texture of the clay and smoothness of the glaze is a beautiful contrast, as well as the sparkle that the platinum lustre gives the decoration.
It is just under 25mm dia or 1" but as it is hollow not as heavy as you might expect. The hole is quite large at 3mm which would take a leather thong or ribbon.
We make all our own beads from bags of clay so you will not find them anywhere else. This bead is fired at the biscuit stage to 1150c and the glaze firing goes to 1020c so they are tough and durable. The addition of all the oxides which makes the clay black also makes it temperamental when it comes to firing temperature, too high and it will foam and go very glassy and stick together.
Please see our other loose beads and come back soon as I intend to put lots of interesting beads on here.
