A fascinating vintage piece in very good condition with very minor slight damage to the edges, the parchment used to be framed. "The storke : a Christmas ballad from the fly-leaf of King Edward's VI's prayer-book, 1549"; and an excerpt from the first printed English version of the bible dedicated to the memory of William Tyndale, who translated and printed the Bible in 1526. It measures 18 cm by 39 cm.
Good vintage condition, the item used to be framed, some minor damage to the sides
As far as I can judge it is a printed (not a hand written) piece in what I would call a pseudo-medieval font. In fact, the font itself seems just as important as the ballad. Doing a very superficial internet search I came across Clara Thomas Archives at the York University (Canada) that hold a collection from the late Allan Robb Fleming, a Canadian graphic designer best known for having created the Canadian National Railway logo. The archive holds a file that “consists of two leaves designed by Allan Fleming, printed on fine paper, and distributed to friends on behalf of his family”. I have a theory that this might be one of those pieces designed by Allan Fleming and sent out to the family and friends one Christmas in 1960’s. I must point out that this is just a theory and the key is of course to get in touch with the archive and request a copy to verify it. Not something I have much time for. However, if my guess is corrent, it can be quite a find. In any case this is an extremely appropriate item for a Christmas present.
