Item details

This listing is for the download of a PDF sewing pattern to make various weight sheets or blankets for small miniature horse sizes 24-40. It is NOT for a physical paper pattern. The sheet or blanket has one hip dart, one straight surcingle, buckled front straps, and detachable leg straps. Instructions are also given for an optional fleece withers protector. WE DO NOT RECOMMEND USING THIS PATTERN FOR TURN-OUT BLANKETS because they require more rugged construction than home sewing machines can produce.

The two blankets in the photos were sewn by SuitAbility customers Stacy Norsworthy and Glenys Linehan using a previous version of this pattern (see below) and are not for sale.

The PDF file includes instructions illustrated with diagrams and the blanket/sheet pattern piece. The six sizes are nested. A measuring diagram and measurement chart are included, along with an example of altering for a custom fit. Download the file using Adobe Reader and print out the pages using 8 1/2" by 11" or A4 paper.

FABRICS

Sheets can be made from cotton duck, other cotton and cotton blend fabrics, and heavyweight outerwear nylons such as packcloth or Cordura™. For cool-down and anti-sweat sheets use terry cloth and cotton or cotton blend mesh. For dress sheets use washable wool and wool blends. For single layer blankets use blanket weight fabrics, old blankets, coat weight wool, and pre-quilted and pre-lined fabrics. For two layer blankets use heavyweight nylon or cotton-type fabrics for the outer layer and fleece or blanket-type material for the inner layer. For insulated blankets use heavyweight outerwear nylon for the outer layer, insulation such as needlepunch for the middle, and ripstop nylon for the lining. For straps use nylon or polypropylene webbing. Seat belting also works well for surcingles. For binding edges use nylon foldover braid or other edge bindings. A surcingle buckle is used for the surcingle strap. Regular buckles are generally used for front straps. Any type buckle can be used as long as they are strong enough.

For fabric , edge binding, and webbing yardages see the table in the photo gallery.

Also needed: Thread, one 2” surcingle buckle, one 2” surcingle slider, four 1” D-rings, four 1” snap hooks, two 1” sliders, two 1” buckles for front straps. For wither protector- piece of fleece, Size 24-26 4” x 6”, Size 28-32 4” x 8”, Size 36-40 4” x 10”.

PLEASE NOTE: This PDF pattern is essentially the same as the equine blanket sizes 24-40 included in the SuitAbility paper version Pattern 7606.
