Item details

This Art Deco Style Jacquard Trim comes in a colour combo of cantaloupe, ivory and black.

The trim is about 40mm wide, and 1.5 meters is all that remains.

It has a triangular pattern alternating in colour between the cantaloupe and ivory, with a flower motif at the base of each triangle. The triangle base spans about 72mm - about 2.83in.

You can see the back of the trim in my final photo. Click the arrow on the left or right of the image to scroll through the images.

Trims such as these have many uses in Bali, including as decorative borders on saputs, the bright yellow or white cloth worn by men over their batik kamben, often desribed as a sarong or sarung.

You can replicate the look on a scrapbook page using this trim.

PayPal is my preferred method of payment. Don't have it? You can still pay that way using your credit card. Just click on the PayPal icon at checkout and follow the prompts.

BACK STORY
The art deco design style began to appear in Paris after World War I and flourished internationally through the 1920s and 30s, and on until the Second World War.

Throughout that time, Indonesia was a Dutch colony until the Japanese occupied it during from 1942 to 1945 World War II.

Bandung is the capital city of West Java, and the third largest city in Indonesia after Jakarta and Surabaya.

It was nicknamed Paris van Java (Paris of Java) by the Dutch for its resemblance to the French capital, and its European atmosphere back in the colonial times.

While there are many surviving classic Dutch colonial buildings in the city, the art-deco style was very popular throughout the earlier half of the 20th century, and the city and its suburbs retain many fine examples of the deco architectural styles.

Indeed, the city retains some of the best examples of Tropical Art Deco architecture in the world, including these examples

Hotel Savoy Homann (near the city square)
Villa Isola (northern part of Bandung)
Gedung Sate (The Provincial government office)
Gedung Merdeka (The Asia-Africa Conference museum)

If you'd like to visit, be aware that on weekends, visitor accommodation is often full of escapees from the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, so be sure to book your hotel in advance.
