Wine Bottle Corker -- Heavy Duty, All Metal Double Lever for Home Wine Making Corks
This is the very best hand helf corker on the market; I've had mine for 8 years and never had any trouble with it. It has corked every bottle I ever set it on and will last you a very long time. It is not adjustable, but it comes perfectly adjusted and never gets out of alignment. This is the DELUXE Maroon body 10003 Portugese corker that is more durable and has longer handles than the $19.95 750301 one with red body and short black handles--well worth the extra $5.
All metal construction, except for grips and throat. Handles natural, agglo, and synthetic corks with ease.
A lot of vendors sell this type corker but very few are actually experienced, dedicated winemakers and none of them really tell you how to use this corker past "put the cork in and pull the levers." Although it is a hand-held corker, we always use it as a floor corker. Instead of standing at a counter or a table to work, reaching up and pulling down, we usually sit on a stool or a dining room chair, steady the bottle between our feet, and use torso weight to push down. Works much better this way and it seems to us that there is less danger of the bottle getting loose on you. You want to cork with a smooth motion starting slow and then really slam it by the time you get to the bottom of the cycle. You can use it alone, but it is a lot more fun if one person fills and another corks....
