This is a digital file
This listing is for the download of a PDF sewing pattern to make an insulated foal blanket which is adjustable to fit sizes 28-40. It has a hook-and-loop tape front closure and leg straps. It is NOT for a physical paper pattern. Instructions are also given for an optional fleece withers protector. WE DO NOT RECOMMEND USING THIS PATTERN FOR TURN-OUT BLANKETS because they require more rugged construction than home sewing machines can produce.
The blanket in the photo shows that the pattern is versatile enough to fit a baby llama! It was sewn by SuitAbility customer Stephanie Dagg in France using a previous version of this pattern (see below) and is not for sale.
The PDF file includes instructions illustrated with diagrams and the blanket pattern piece. Download the file using Adobe Reader and print out the pages using 8 1/2" by 11" or A4 paper.
Use heavyweight outerwear nylon for the outer layer, insulation such as needlepunch for the middle, and ripstop nylon for the lining. For straps use nylon or polypropylene webbing. Seat belting also works well for surcingles. For binding edges use nylon foldover braid or other edge bindings. A surcingle buckle is used for the surcingle strap.
1 3/8 yds of 44"/59" fabric needed for EACH layer
5 yds of 1" edge binding
2 7/8 yds of 1" webbing
2 1/2 yds of 2" webbing
Also needed: Thread, one 2” surcingle buckle, one 2” surcingle slider, four 1” D-rings, four 1” snap hooks, two 1” sliders. For wither protector- one 4" x 10" piece of fleece.
PLEASE NOTE: This PDF pattern is essentially the same as the adjustable foal blanket included in the SuitAbility paper version Pattern 7606.
