"Forget Me Not" Vintage / Antique style Make do pincushion
Hello! I am so pleased to offer this makedo pincushion. It tells a story of love, and hope---memories, and wartime. The exact tale is yours to tell.
(I picture a young woman whose husband has been gone for many months, to serve in Mr Lincoln's army. Her child was born after her man left for war, so she had an itinerant photogrpher make the special brooch with the baby's picture. Tonight she is sewing a blue wool coat for her husband. After she sews on his shiny brass eagle buttons, she will gently pin the brooch on the inside lapel. With God's grace the coat will reach her love, somewhere faraway, back east in Virginia, where he is stationed, awaiting yet another fight for freedom....Her foot rocks the cradle. "We're sending this to Papa, my sweet. We're sending our love." That's my story. Yours?)
Hand felted red wool heart pincushion on a flea market find satin glass base---once a small candle stick. Motto in gorgeous old script, antique china ''calico'' button, old rusty upholstery pin tack holding a sand filled strawberry emery, also red wool. This lets you move the strawberry where you'd like it positioned, as this is a usable pin keep. Antique calico fabric bow.
Best of all this pinkeep has an antique Civil War Era hand tinted photo in a [? ] gold [?]or gold filled / tin backed frame. The photo is of a beautiful child with rosy cheeks, a red sash, and a pearl necklace. Pin is unmarked, condition is very good tho I did not take it apart to look for the child's name and birthdate, and I did not clean it beyond a gentle rub down.
total height approx 8" / Heart is about 5"
***Price reflects the value of the antique [mourning?] brooch c. 1860- 1890. These sell alone for as much as 150.oo. If you are interested in the pin cushion without the brooch/ pin/ portrait please contact me for a revised listing. Without the pin, the pinkeep alone is 30.00.
This is an unusual and exceptional pincushion. Very romantic and primitve. OOAK. Perfect for prim display or for your sewing room; a lovely gift for the sewer or quilter in your life, too.
