The famed mojito cocktail, once a daily favourite of Ernest Hemingway, has enjoyed a meteoric resurgence in popularity ever since James Bond drank one in the movie Die Another Day. The mojito, made with rum, sugar, lime juice and unique mojito mint, is now an essential staple of cocktail lounges everywhere. While recipes call for any available variety of spearmint, the real mojito can only be made with the true mojito mint. This is the authentic plant. It is clearly different from most other mints -- its scent and flavour are agreeably mild and warm, not pungent nor overly sweet like other mints. In a perhaps typically understated way its warm embrace lingers until you realize you want more. Like all mints it is easy to grow and will happily provide more than enough fresh sprigs for your mojitos. Salud!
For delicious alcoholic and non-alcoholic mojito.
A mint that traces its origins back, used to flavor the cocktails for which it's named. The aromatic leaves may be used fresh or dried in all kinds of dishes and drinks. Not as overpowering as other mints. Grows 18 to 24 inches tall. Perennial.
If you're into sunny latitudes and an afternoon pause that refreshes in a big way, you've probably tried a mojito -- one of the most popular new tropical beverages around. It's made with mint, and the directions require "muddling" or crushing the leaves in the bottom of the glass.
Mojitos are tasty, but if you're a mint connoisseur, you may not be able to place that light aroma and mild but satisfying bite. That's because the country origins of this drink call for a special mint unique to the island. The mint question can get dicey. Some references cite spearmint as the first mint used for the classic mojito, while others are adamant it was the milder Mentha x villosa. Mojitos are pretty tasty either way, and I even like them with peppermint, chocolate mint or apple mint.
How to Grow Mojito Mint
Where a few years ago it was rare, you can find mojito mint through most online herb suppliers these days. Give it a loamy spot that gets good morning light and some afternoon shade (or dappled light). It likes soil that drains well and remains uniformly moist during the hottest part of the day.
Many mints prefer similar conditions, which makes mojito mint pretty predictable if you've grown mint before. I keep mine around our home's downspout. When it rains, the mints are the first to receive the bounty, and the addition of sand to the soil insures good drainage. Mojito mint can spread out quite a bit, becoming invasive. One way to control the sprawl is to give this plant a big pot and then bury the pot in your flowerbed. You'll have decent growth but less risk of its taking over your landscape. If you think providing consistent moisture will be a problem, mulch the area around the pot in summer and fall.

Seed is a live product, which depends on many important grower skills such as proper planting time, seed depth, type of soil, watering, light intensity, proper use of fertilizers, weed controls, fungicides, insecticides, soil conditions, and reasonable weather during the growing period. These factors are totally out of the seller's control, and germination and growing results are the buyer's responsibility and risk. Seller cannot be responsible for buyers growing methods or mistakes. All seed sales are final. No refunds or replacements after the 5 days have expired.

During high peak / high volume times of the year we cannot guarantee that the buyers order will ship out within the 1-3 days listed. The seller has no control over the usps, and buyers need to be aware that it can take up to 2 1/2 weeks to receive the order (not all orders but some orders will arrive very late). The usps loses an average of 5 - 10 orders each week, with or without tracking.
It is the buyers responsibility to provide the correct shipping address. We do not replace orders that are sent to the wrong address. If the buyer submits the order containing an incorrect address, we will not replace the order, nor will we refund the cost of the order or the shipping cost.
