This listing is for one 16" strand of graduated sized tumbled nugget beads, drilled on one end of the nugget so they will hang like a petal shaped briolette from your jewelry designs. These beads were cut from genuine natural TURQUOISE mined in the Austin region of Nevada (Lander County). I have two strands this size and color range - Your bid for one item buys One of the two strands shown in the pictures, please look at all the pictures, blow them up to full size on your computer monitor - the color is fabulous, and the stone relatively rare. These strands are a soft aqua green Turquoise stone with a touch of blue and some coppery brown matrix; these beads graduate in size from about 3x5mm on each end of the strand to about 4x12mm in the center of the strand; these strands weight between 30-34 grams per strand. Help yourself to a Tucson show bargain - they are priced low, at $1.00 per gram!
There is an interesting story about these strands - there are a number of turquoise mines located in the Austin Nevada area, including the Ackerman, the King Tut, the Marie, the Zuni and Papoose mines, the Battle Mountain, the Blue Gem, the Blue Diamond, Carico Lake, the Demale, the McGuinnis, and more - the vendor who produced this strand bought a big collection of rough stone from the family of a miner who had worked several mines in this region from the early 1920's through the mid 1960's - he was certain this stone was from the Austin Nevada area and that it was mined more than 50 years ago but not certain which mine or mines the stone came from. The collection of rough stone was shipped to China where it was stabilized and cut into strands of beads by a premium grade boutique cutting company - the cutting and finish work is very nicely done. This stone is Natural Color, the color was not enhanced during the stabilization process.
