This pattern includes instructions for two blocks—Open Book and Book Shelf—that can be used separately or in combination with one another. These are both stylized pictorial designs. Each block is rectangular, measuring 16 inches wide and 12 inches high when finished.
The Open Book block can represent different ideas. It can be a journal that one writes in, and in that sense it can represent the way we live and understand life. It can also be a book that one reads, and in that sense it can represent a person’s appreciation for literature and the enjoyment of reading or writing books.
Both blocks are easy to make. The Open Book block has an optional dog-eared corner on one page. If included, this feature can be made as a three-dimensional flap or it can simply be indicated with top-stitching.
In the Open Book block, the pages that the book is opened to can be left plain, as in the sample quilt shown in the first product image. Or they can be filled with images or text in several ways. Fabric with a text print or one with large illustrations can be used. A heat transfer of custom text or images can be applied. Or messages and images can be embroidered on the pages.
This 6-page PDF pattern includes many colored diagrams, detailed instructions, fabric selection tips and a chart of pieces to cut for each Open Book and Book Shelf block—everything you need to successfully create a beautiful quilt project with your own special touch!
When you purchase this pattern, you will also receive my free 5-page PDF tool for calculating yardage, shown in the last product image. The Yardage Calculator will not only guide you in determining your yardage requirements, but it will also guide you in cutting pieces for your quilt from strips. You can use this tool with any quilt pattern, not just with my designs.
