These two pieces were once buttons, but along the way, someone removed the button backs for what reason I can not say. They have a black glass center that has a deep carved profile of a Roman or Greek soldier. The carving is nicely done and detailed. Each piece is held in place by metal rods. These are all framed in by a rolled gold frame and backing. There is space between the metal rods and the frame, making it easy to attach a jump ring or findings to convert these to a necklace or incorporate into re purposed jewelry. There are no makers marks, but these were beautiful buttons at one time. Each on measures 3/4 inch square and there are no chips or cracks to the glass centers. Circa 1900-1915.
