This listing is for the download of a PDF sewing pattern to make a dressage half pad with adjustable billet straps in medium and large sizes. It is NOT for a physical paper pattern.
The pad in the photo is a SuitAbility prototype. This pad is not for sale. For the exact shape and dimensions of the pad in this pattern see above.
The PDF file includes instructions illustrated with diagrams and the pad pattern piece. Download the file using Adobe Reader and print out the pages using 8 1/2" by 11" or A4 paper.
When choosing materials consider what thickness of layers your sewing machine can handle. You can use two layers of double-faced pre-quilted fabric for the top with faux sheepskin fleece on the bottom. Otherwise for the top use two layers of heavyweight cotton or cotton blend fabric with quilt batting sandwiched in between. For the topline seam and straps use nylon or polypropylene webbing. To bind pad edges use foldover braid or other bias bindings. We’ve had good luck using cotton-polyester double fold bias binding which holds up surprisingly well and comes in many different colors.
If using double-faced pre-quilted fabric: 1 1/3 YDS of 45” wide or 3/4 YDS of 60” wide fabric. If using fabric and batting: 1 1/3 YDS of 45” wide or 3/4 YDS of 60” wide fabric and 3/8 YD batting. Faux sheepskin fleece required for bottom: 2/3 YD of 45” wide or 1/2 YD of 60” wide.
For a medium half pad: 5/8 YD of 2” wide topline webbing and 2 5/8 YDS edge binding. For a large half pad: 3/4 YD of 2” wide topline webbing and 2 3/4 YDS edge binding.
For billet straps- 1 1/8 YDS 1” wide webbing and 20” of 1” wide hook-and-loop tape.
PLEASE NOTE: This PDF pattern is essentially the same as the dressage half pad included in the SuitAbility paper version Pattern 7158.
