Item details

The reburial of Richard III on March 26, 2015 inspired me to design this hat based on the Archer's Spagenhelm medieval helmet. Richard III lost his helmet in battle, as evidenced by the wounds to his head. I doubt he was wearing an archer's helmet, which has no nasal guard, but it looked like the best helmet to replicate. I thought it would be a fun hat for a man or woman attending a Medieval or Renaissance fair on a chilly morning.

The pattern has sizes for a 17-inch head to a 26-inch head (really large!), so you can kit out the whole family.

Materials: 100 yards worsted weight yarn and size 7 needles (16 inch circular and double-points)

Skills: knit, purl, k2tog, ssk, and make bobbles
