FAQs

We ship within 1-3 business days of cleared payment using 1st class mail in the US for orders up to 16 oz--that's 80% of our inventory--and it usually takes 5-7 days to arrive, but is slower in December. We use Priority Mail for orders 1+ lb (2-3 days to arrive) and Media Mail for books (1-2 weeks to arrive). Arrival times are ESTIMATES. Weather/holidays cause delays. Tracking # is on your Etsy order page and in the email sent when we ship. International orders ship within FIVE business days; customer pays any customs fees. --Double-check the ship-to address you provide. --We must charge sales tax if you live in Illinois. --If you need to reach us, use ETSY CONVO, not Yahoo email.

If you order from single or double skein listings and your shipping exceeds $14.75--and if we can fit it into a medium box (up to 22 yarns)--we rebate any excess over $14.75, without you having to ask, on the day we pack your order. Applies to US orders only. If you order a few skeins and shipping is UNDER $14.75, there are discounts built in to your shipping total but no rebates. We've had many orders that exceeded $300 and some that even reached $1,500; those buyers got very large shipping rebates. No rebates are given for "destash yarn lots" because they are already consolidated and discounted. No rebates are given on yarn CONES or yarn BUNDLES.

If you order quite a few things, you could get a rebate, depending on what you order, how big the product is, how much the package weighs, whether we offered shipping rates below our actual cost to mail it to you, how far you are from Chicago, how much protective packaging is needed, whether or not it fits in a flat rate box, etc. Lots of variables, eh? That's why we cannot predict combined shipping fees in advance. The rebates are processed at the time of shipping. And since Etsy now collects a commission from sellers on both the merchandise AND shipping, that's a new wrinkle to factor in. Most of the rebates we give are for large, complex yarn orders, so please read the FAQ above this one if you're a yarnie.

CANADIANS and AUSTRALIANS: About 75% of our listings--mostly scarves, hats, handbags, single skeins of yarn--are available to you. Merchandise over a certain amount ($20? maybe?) could be subject to taxes and/or handling charges collected by Canada. Australia has some sort of 10% tax being added. PLEASE CONSULT YOUR OWN POST OFFICE IF YOU HAVE CONCERNS. The seller only collects payment for product + shipping. It falls upon you, the buyer, to understand and to pay ALL fees collected by your country. Seller will not pay, reimburse or credit any Australian or Canadian fees, either before or after you order. Fees, VAT and customs set by other countries compel us to suspend shipping elsewhere else for now. Sorry, EU.

Please read the listing and zoom in on photos before ordering. If you are tall or plus-sized, a scarf or handbag strap might look different on you than it does on a petite model. No two people see or define color the same way; what you call tan someone else may define as beige; no two people seem to agree on what turquoise is; and colors look different from one electronic device to another. Yarn gauges depend on how you knit; yarn softness is subjective. If you order something described as 3" wide in the listing, then yes, it really is 3" wide. Please measure your head before ordering a hat. Again, reading the listing and zooming in will give you valuable information that you might miss if you quickly skim the listing.

We don't offer wholesale arrangements. You are welcome to resell any of our merchandise in a bricks and mortar shop. Do not list our goods on Etsy, though.

We send a tracking number without you having to ask. If you misplaced the email, look at your transaction page on Etsy. USPS tracking sometimes doesn't update for days, especially near holidays, so expect delays in December. Sometimes USPS tracking shows "label created" and "delivered," but nothing in-between. Nobody likes that! But it doesn't mean your package is "stuck" in some town in the Midwest. It IS en route, yet we cannot control the post office, so please sit tight and we'll get involved if necessary. Read the FAQ below this one if you are growing impatient.

We ship to the address YOU gave at checkout. USPS tracking information is not comprehensive and your package could be within a day of reaching you despite minimal tracking data. However, if the tracking # shows delivery, yet you have not seen the package, ask all residents at your address if they brought in the mail, look in the shrubs, etc. In our experience, when a tracking # shows arrival, the package DID arrive; however, if inquiries don't pan out, contact your post office and give them the tracking number we gave you. We've shipped over 100,000 packages since 2003 and while some were delayed, most arrived eventually. Package theft in the US is rising. I urge you to get a PO Box or package drop set-up. Or accept deliveries at work.

Sorry. We do not negotiate prices, change listings, add photos, lengthen straps, add zippers, change shipping method or break up yarn destashes for you. We ship in the time frame and method stated, but if you order a lot of small merchandise that would ordinarily be shipped first class mail--and your total order exceeds 16 oz.--you are automatically upgraded to USPS Priority Mail. We will also ship a gift to another address without revealing the price you paid, but PLEASE type this other address in the SHIP TO space when you check out. The shop owner is caring for someone with chronic illness (not contagious) and greatly appreciates you being patient and civil.
