These plants are all from cuttings that were grown organically locally and have never been fertilized or sprayed. VERY PRETTY hedge or can be standardized into a small tree shape. Small pretty white clusters of blossoms. Butterflies love them! Extremely easy to start and care for, okay full or partial sun, will accept dappled shade but not grow as full. They'll even grow inside - they get leggy and have small leaves but they do live! Does okay in poor sandy soil with no added fertilizers and very little water (once established). Grows faster with regular watering.
These are tropical plants, and in a warm area they will thrive year round. They grow fuller and taller in hot climates. If you have a freeze wait until spring, then cut them back to the ground and (if they are over a year old) and they will almost always sprout and grow rapidly as soon as warm weather arrives.
Grows to a height of 10-12 feet.
You will be buying 4 unrooted cuttings. They will be around 7-10 inches. Most of the leaves will be stripped for shipping. Pot and soil not included.
CARE: Remember this is essentially a tropical plant, so it prefers sun and sandy loose soil, not clay or heavy soils. It is fine in partial shade in my area (I live in Florida, zone 9). Once established it needs little tending, water deeply in dry weather, requires no fertilizer or sprays. Depending on your location the plant will get up to 15 feet high (taller in warmer regions, shorter in colder regions) and about ½ that around. You may trim any time you want, it will not hurt the plant and will help make it bushy rather than leggy. You can also standardize it, making it into a small “tree” shape by putting in 1 cutting and limiting the trimming until it’s the shape you want.
TO COOK: Remove leaves (smaller ones are more tender). I recommend wearing gloves if you have sensitive skin. Wash, then cut into bite size pieces. Cook in boiling water for 22 minutes, drain and dress with olive oil and sea salt. You can also cook them the same way and add to soups, casserole or stews. Especially delicious added to white beans and broth, with a splash of fish sauce or sesame oil added, and served with crusty bread for dipping. To freeze, cook as directed, drain and freeze in some chicken or vegetable broth. DO NOT EAT RAW or cooked less than 22 minutes, as not fully cooking it can result in “violent stomachaches” according to all the information I have read. We have eaten it for years and served it to many guests and everyone has loved it.
The plant is firm, delicious, and very high in plant protein. Makes a beautiful hedge (can be quite dense if trimmed properly, or can be standardized into a small tree shape) and butterflies love the small white flower.

The cuttings were all nicely sized and viable. They are currently growing successfully in my small container garden with partial shade to protect them from the sweltering midday sun (I'm in zone 13). Great communication with seller, fast shipping and eco-friendly packaging (a rare bonus for me).
