This is beautiful lightweight silk Imported from India in the 1970s. It was purchased at the estate of a Seattle seamstress. It is a handkerchief weight I think it would be called Habotai if it were made in China. Similar to a plain weave scarf silk.
Excellent condition. No odors or damage.
Hand made using the ancient Batik Dying process which is a technique of wax-resist and dyeing applied to whole cloth. Batik is made either by drawing the pattern of the resist wax with a spouted tool or by printing the resist with a stamp. The lightest color in the design is covered with wax, then the second color is dyed and for a third color, more wax is "drawn" onto the fabric and the process continues until the desired number of colors is reached.
