These copper stringers have been encased in clear Zephyr glass from Double Helix Glassworks in Charlottesville Va. I love the clarity of this glass, and the fact that I can purchase this directly from the artists that make the glass is a real bonus . These hand-pulled glass stringers of copper dichroic glass are a great way to add the sparkle and flash of dichroic glass to your lampwork without the burning and scumming that often happens when dichro is worked in the flame.
When a friend of mine came to my studio to learn to make beads, she had never worked with glass before. By the end of the afternoon, she was making beads with dichro stringers, and she never had a problem with the dichro burning! Say good-by to the heartache of scummy, burned dichro and hello to the sparkle.
These versatile stringers are a great way to add a whole new dimension to your lampwork. Because the dichro particles are fully encased, you can use the stringer as a surface decoration on your beads, as well as encasing them further in the bead.
I make my dichro stringers from layers of dichro wrapped around itself and then encased in a double layer of Double helix Zephyr 104 clear glass. I then pull the glass into stringers ranging from 1-4mm in thickness that are loaded with sparkles. These stringers are very labor intensive to make, and provide quite a challenge to keep the layers of dichro from burning before they are encased, but I think the end result is well worth it.
This listing is for 0.4oz of copper dichroic stringers which generally is 4-7 9" stringers. The beads are shown only as examples of what you can do with this stringer. The beads themselves are NOT part of this listing.
