Item details

This double horn 25mm carved bone crescent bead has been double drilled for those who want to make a cuff or bracelet.

About one inch, it's a mid-size between the 20mm and 30mm versions of this potent bead that I have made for me here in Bali, and that has become one of my most popular bead designs.

Like them, it's carved both sides with a smooth curved surface, that helps give this design its other name, crescent moon.

It's drilled with a 1mm hole through each of the sides.

Please note that this listing is for one piece only.

PayPal is my preferred method of payment.

BACK STORY
Mekepung or bull races are held in the west Bali regency of Jembrana from July to October each year.

Madurese migrants introduced the sport to celebrate the end of the rice harvest, and it has become a tourist attraction for one of the least visited regencies on the Island of the Gods.

While I'm not a fan of the use of animals for this type of sport and have never actually seen one of these events, the races are said to be thrilling contests between teams of two young water buffalo harnessed to a chariot.

The chariot is ridden by a jockey who holds onto the bulls' tails as they career down a 2km race course, kicking up dust and sweat.

The water buffalo used in these races are said to be treated with great care, and are fed elaborate diets containing "all sorts of wonderful potions and secret ingredients".

Most of the races happen outside the regency capital of Negara, next to a river estuary in the location of Parancak.
