There is nothing more special than living near the ocean. The ships on the bay, the sea life on the beaches at low tide and the smell of a cool sea breeze. I've been blessed to live near Katchemak Bay in Alaska and have the opportunity to share this blessing with my child and grandchildren. This inspired me to create a special quilt for my grandson to help him remember the special times when he returns home.
This quilt is made with 6 nine inch blocks incased in 3 inch sashing. Each block shows a different symbol of living on the bay including a sailboat, lobster, lighthouse, whale, captains wheel, and an anchor. I used nautical colors of red, shades of blue, white and yellow cotton fabric. The overall size of the crib quilt is 38 inches by 50 inches. The patterns are easy to make using fusible web applique. This quilt could easily be made into a twin size quilt by making your blocks larger and increasing the size of the borders
