Item details

This charming motif features two curious rabbits peering through open windows on a rich indigo base. It's about 90 x 37 centimeters(35.43" x 14.57").

Please note before purchase that this item ships from Kyoto for all purchases, including those from the US. Shipping is free and is via Japan Post. Please allow 2-3 weeks for delivery.

The bunnies are based on classical rabbits of the sort that are often at the center of classic fables, prone to let their curiosity get the better of them as they hop and hop in search of new adventures. They might get into a bit of trouble on occasion in the process, but always seem to get out of it, none the worse for wear, in the end!

Tenugui are traditional Japanese cotton cloths. They were originally used as hand towels and head bands, but are used today mainly in craft projects and as room accents and come in a variety of motifs. Tenugui of this fine quality are often framed, and if you have the chance to come to Japan, do go to see these framed and on display in the shops, it's a real treat! Take yours to your local frame store and select a frame that will suit your space, and you'll enjoy this for years to come.

The colors can run a bit when this is new, so if you wear it as a headband it could run, and it should be washed separately after use to prevent colors from running and getting on other garments. Hand washing separately is recommended, to prolong the life of the fabric.

If you've purchased my furoshiki wrapping cloths, please note that tenugui cotton is a plain weave that is lighter that the fabric used for most of my furoshiki, and it is flat, with a plain texture, more similar to the sort of fabric used for bandanas, so it might not be as suitable for some fabric projects. And unlike my furoshiki, tenugui are not finished at the ends, threads are left loose.

Because the ends are not sewn, the horizontal threads(the woof may fray a bit as it's used. If you wash your tenugui, I recommend hand washing for at least the first few times. The raw ends of tenugui will gradually tighten after being washed a few times.

Reminds me of my rabbit Rupert. I had to iron it to get the creases out but that is no big deal.
