Item details

This is a 4oz braid of Merino/Bamboo/Silk (50/25/25) combed top hand painted in shades of pale green & aqua. Soft with beautiful shine!

Silk is much lower in density compared to cotton, wool or nylon. It is, therefore, highly moisture absorbent, able to absorb as much as a third of its own weight in moisture without feeling damp. There are two types of silk- cultivated and wild. Mulberry Silk is cultivated and the worms are fed strictly mulberry leaves. Cultivated silk is typically finer, stronger, smoother and more uniform. Tussah silk is wild and the worms eat whatever they can find which affects the color and texture.

Bamboo fabric has a natural sheen and softness that feels and drapes like silk but is less expensive and more durable. Bamboo is highly absorbent and wicks water away from the body 3 to 4 times faster than cotton. It is hypoallergenic and naturally anti-bacterial and anti-fungal.

Merino wool is luxuriously soft and excellent for people with sensitivity to traditional wool. It is a fine fiber, with many characteristics that make it one of the most popular natural fibers worldwide. It is very due to its natural properties that wick moisture away from the body while still holding in warmth. It is extremely absorbent, like cotton, but unlike cotton, merino retains its warmth when wet. Compared to other wools, it has a superior warmth-to-weight ratio, meaning it weighs less and warms more.

I use only professional acid dyes on my products. I do my best to exhaust the dye bath, and rinse my products to remove any excess dye. However, some fibers are more delicate and may have only been lightly rinsed so as to prevent felting. Also, some dye colors are more prone to bleeding than others (ex. turquoise and red shades) Any excess dye should rinse out when you wash and set your yarn, however you should never wash fibers dyed with acid dyes in hot water as it can break the bonds and actually cause bleeding.

I have tried to capture the true colors as close as possible using natural light and a digital camera, but colors may vary slightly as not all monitors are the same. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me!

Please be aware that my fibers are often stored with lavender, and most orders will be shipped with a small lavender sachet. If you have any allergies or sensitivities to lavender, please let me know and I will make sure to skip the sachet in your order!
