Item details

The cheeky baby burrowing owl is a beginners hand embroidery kit in the needle painting embroidery technique.

Needle painting is also known as thread painting or painting with a needle or silk shading or long and short stitch and is a form of embroidery art.

The owl is a good design for learning how to create the feathery/furry effect for bodies of birds and animals.

Needle painting is also known as thread painting or painting with a needle or silk shading and long and short stitch.
It is the method of creating realistic hand embroidery using a single strand of embroidery thread in the needle at one time.
The stitches are worked like paint strokes so they blend beautifully to great the smooth and realistic embroidery.

The finished embroidery measures 4 inches (10 cm) high by 2 1/2 inches (5 cm) wide.

The kit includes very detailed instructions on how to stitch the bird with step by step diagrams on how to work the stitches. There are picture guides for where to work the colours on the bird. The DMC cotton embroidery threads (floss) come sorted for you on a numbered template so you know exactly which colour to use on the embroidery. The 11 inch by 11 inch cotton fabric comes with the design drawn on so you do not have to transfer the design onto the fabric yourself. A fine needle and needle threader is also provided in the kit.

You can work the embroidery in a hoop or a stretcher bar frame. You will require either an 8 inch hoop or a 9 inch stretcher bar frame to work the embroidery in.

Please see the other listings to purchase the stretcher bar frame and extra needles and needle threaders.

If you have any questions as you are working the embroidery you can email me at any time.

Thanks for your interest,

Tanja

First it is adorable. The instructions are detailed and easy to follow. I will definitely buy other kits. I'm thinking about making it larger and using crewel. It is listed as a beginner's project. I think it does take some embroidery skills, but it is great.
