My Irish grandfather (a band-leader) travelled to India to work for the East India Company. My father (sadly he died in 2010) was a Captain in the Indian Army in WWII (and later Acting Major) met and married my very glamorous Anglo-Indian mother in India.
My sister, my niece, my mother and I visited Kolkata in 2013, we stayed in the Oberoi Grand Hotel (Mummy sang here in the 1940s). Our relatives took us to visit the artisan makers; extraordinarily talented crafts people. The hubbub of this making area was incredible. We watched delicate kites being made and huge effigies (Kali and Ganesh) being carved out of wood and carved in plaster, the most delicate painted clay vases which had been turned, not on wheels but on round stones, turned fast by the maker’s feet as they crouch down low.
I am thrilled to have found an amazing company making wooden artifacts in Northern India. I spoke to them about developing our unique designs and this is what you see here.
I am so grateful to these skilled makers for their kindness. Their company is based in the principles of fair trade.
The large yarn bowl I purchased was a lovely object that arrived in good condition and was well presented making it an excellent christmas present. It's such a nice practical item I may have to get one myself in the future!

Item brilliant. Came quickly. Well packed.
Only spoilt by details of contents on outside of package + email arrived a few days later with photo and details. As this was a present, this ruined the surprise. Would not order from same place again.

The color of this bowl is gorgeous!! The large size is perfect for the chunky weight wool or alpaca I enjoy crocheting with, I'm very happy with this yarn bowl.
