Item details

A 50g skein of CHUNKY 100% organic wool from our Lleyn sheep, gently plant-dyed by myself on the farm.

Length approx 40m per 50g, and 8wpi.

The wool is dyed in small batches, using organic plants from my garden, a small selection of plant extracts, cochineal (not plant but animal origin), and occasionally plants from elsewhere, completely without the use of potentially harmful metal mordants. The natural process allows for subtle variations of colour, making each batch and the item you create with it unique. This wool is gentle to the environment and to you.

These chunky wool skeins have been dyed using nettle, spinach, cutch, dandelion, st johns wort, buddleia, cochineal, madder and alkanet.

I re-skein each skein, removing any knots and tangles in the process, to make it as easy as possible to wind the yarn into a ball. The wool washes well and is medium soft.

I dye in small batches and have a limited amount of skein in each colour, but if you would like more than I have in stock in any one colour I can dye a batch to order, provided the plants are in stock or/and in season. It usually takes around a week to dye and dry a batch, but for some colours the process is more lengthy. Please do contact me to ask.

I can convo a photo of the actual skeins you will receive for a custom order, or any other, order.

This product is 100% UK origin produce and manufacture.

My woolbands are made with recycled paper from an eco company, outer packaging is biodegradable and where I use cellophane packaging I source plant-based not plastic.

I have done my best to show colours as accurately as possible, but it is difficult to accurately reflect colours on a computer and different monitors show colours differently. If you would like more details on a colour do ask me anytime.

Your order will be sent by post using the UK Royal Mail:
Orders going abroad will be sent standard post, airmail, which takes up to 5 working days for Europe and USA, but may take longer to other destinations, Although allowing up to 2 working days to send the order out orders will often be posted next working day after the order was placed.

If you are ordering a larger number of items and would like an individual quote for postage please contact me, I will find the cheapest way to send the order for you.

I will always get a proof of postage when posting your item but to keep the carriage cost down do not send orders with a to-be-signed for or tracked service. If you would prefer to have your order sent with a courier or to be signed for and tracked, I can arrange this but it will be more expensive, please contact me to ask and I will get a quote.

The UK postal system is generally very reliable. I have not had any problems with orders sent elsewhere, but if your order is leaving the UK and you are aware that your country's postal system may not be that reliable you may prefer a tracked and signed-for delivery in spite of the added expense as this tracks the delivery and gives a greater guarantee.

When ordering from outside the UK, please note that I cannot be responsible for any custom charges if there are any and I cannot accept responsibility for delays due to customs or foreign postal services.

Returns & exchanges

I hope you will be very happy with your purchase.
I check my orders very carefully and do my best to ensure you get exactly what you would like, providing as much information as you would like before posting it, so hopefully there should not be any problems with the order but if in spite of that you are not happy with your order please let me know so I can try and sort the problem.

If you do decide not to keep it you can return it as long as it is in unused, undamaged, re-saleable condition. Please let me know within 7 working days from receiving an order and return it within 10 working days after that and I will refund you the full cost of the item once I received it as long as it is not damaged, used or altered in any way. I recommend you get a proof of postage to show when or that it has been posted in case there is a problem. Please be aware I may not be able to refund the full cost of the original postage or refund the cost to you of posting the item back.

Additional policies

I do my best to accurately show the colours of the wool, but different monitors or screens do show colours differently. If you are not sure of a colour please get in touch and I can try to describe it in more detail and email extra photos.

I recommend the wool is either gently washed by hand using lukewarm water and a suitable wool product or on the wool cycle in a modern washing machine using a suitable wool wash product (Ecover delicate-wash liquid has worked well for me). I have washed items made with our wool in my machine without any problems, but you need to ensure your machine is set to wash cool enough and gentle enough and the spin cycle is slow enough to not damage the wool. If in doubt it is best to wash by hand.

Generally the wool washes well, and as wool is always washed at a cool temperature colours wash well too.
