Item details

The Maneki Neko or white Chinese lucky cat was originally of Japanese origin but became Chinese over time. The Maneki Neko is well known in Japan and China as a symbol of prosperity and now you can bring good luck to your home by hanging it on your wall! White is a traditional colour for lucky cats, alongside gold, black and red. There are no backstitches or half stitches required for this project.

With Japanese cherry blossom flowers and the traditional Japanese koban coin worth ten million ryo (a lot of money), the cat has its paw raised, holding the koban for good luck.

This cute counted cat cross stitch pattern looks best stitched on navy fabric and fits perfectly into a 6 inch hoop frame. Popular auspicious places to hang Maneki Neko include bedrooms, study rooms and businesses. The skill level required for this project is intermediate, due to the ability to stitch on navy Aida and also patience being required for the large colored areas.

***STRIPED FRAME***
If you want the frame to look like the one in the photo, please purchase my frame wrapping tutorial separately, for complete step-by-step instructions in a full colour photo PDF. You can find it here: https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/242093481/decorative-hoop-frame-floss-wrapping

FAQs

Due to time constraints, I work on designing new items when I can, so unfortunately am unable to do custom orders.

If you do not receive your pattern/tutorial download link via email within 24 hours after payment, please check your spam folder first. On the odd occasion, Etsy downloads can be slow in arriving due to platform technical issues. Please also note that sometimes patterns cannot be downloaded with a mobile phone or tablet. If this is the case, either try a laptop or a desktop computer, or alternatively, contact me through my Etsy shop and I will manually send the PDF to you. Instructions on downloading are here: https://www.etsy.com/au/help/article/3949

All PDFs have been tested by me for printing. You should be able to print any pattern or tutorial you purchase here. I'm happy to check and resend the PDF file to you if there appears to be an issue, however, printing problems can often arise from your computer and printer setup, rather than a fault in the PDF itself.

Lucky Star Stitches is a bit different from many other Etsy cross stitch shops. I hand stitch my patterns (it often takes days to do just one pattern) and I check the colours and shapes and make sure the cross stitch fits in the frame manually. This ensures that everything looks and works as intended for the final PDF. Other shops are known to get a screen grab of their software-produced pattern and Photoshop it onto a stock (bought) photo, in order to create the appearance of stitching, but without actually doing any needlework. It can be a case of buyer beware with these patterns. Hence, since it takes time for me to create 'real' patterns, I have to charge a certain base price - otherwise, it doesn't cover the time and work involved.

Although all due care is taken to create patterns with no errors, I am only human! If you discover an error in any of my products, please contact me with details about it, so I can fix the pattern for everyone. I undertake to resolve all errors within a timely manner, and will send you a fresh replacement PDF as soon as possible, with the correction made in it.

This is due to your printer running low on toner and resulting in patchy ink coverage. Change your printer toner cartridge to see strong graph lines again, or alternatively, print the pattern at a copy shop.

Have a look on Ebay, Amazon and Etsy as navy Aida sometimes turns up on these platforms. Another place to get it is: https://www.123stitch.com/item/Zweigart-14-Ct-Navy-Aida-Fabric-18x21/3706-589Z

A very common technique is to cut out a piece of felt and glue it to the back of the frame, holding it in place with pegs until it dries. For a finer finish using sewing, visit this tutorial: https://stitchedmodern.com/blogs/news/how-to-frame-cross-stitch-in-an-embroidery-hoop#
