Here up for sale is 1.1 oz of sinfully, dreamy soft English angora rabbit fiber from Moosetracks, our handsome little stud born here this spring. 3"-4" and is pale cream with a bit of white in color. Moosetracks is an adorable friendly little guy. He developed an eye cataract this summer so he's always poking his nose out of his cage to see where you're at in the barn and if he's gonna get some more lovin' :D
This is perfect for spinning as is, or carding or blending it in with wool, alpaca or ??? to create luxury yarns, felt, or other projects. Also would be great just to stick your hand in and pet! It will take up dyes beautifully, and I've done many projects with angora fluff dyed in an assortment of colors. It was humanely harvested by giving her a sporty, short haircut for spring with my scissors, and storing the fiber in ziplock bags. I'm very meticulous in my bunny shearing and it has very few short cuts (I pick most of them out). It takes me nearly 1.5 hrs to finish a bunny hair cut! Ready to spin right out of the bag, or you can lightly card it to make for a bit more even spin, which is what I tend to do.
My bunnies are meticulously cared for and given a special diet to help their hair grow quickly and extra soft! They get groomed and carefully brushed or "blown" out for grooming once a week. With the regular, frequent grooming and handling they become quite friendly and sweet! Once every three or four months when the fiber is long enough they get a hair cut (just like you or me) and get to sport a cool crew cut until it grows back again. They enjoy the freedom and coolness after wearing all that heavy wool! After hair cuts they go speeding around, hopping and jumping and twisting in their exercise yard or our living room in complete glee! It takes another three+ months until they have another coat grown again. I then card the fiber on hand carders and spin it on my spinning wheel, and it's ready for use once again, this time as an amazingly warm scarf, mittens, hat, etc :D It's a wonderful, interesting, educational, and exciting process!
