The Cloverleaf paintbox is a compact, lightweight watercolour palette made of high impact white plastic. It is 12cm x12cm x 4.2 cm and is easy to use. The paint tray is removable to make cleaning your box easier, additional paint trays are available for purchase separately. You can rotate it so that the thumb grip is right or left. handed and the mixing wells you want to use can always be closest to you, and the paints are always in the same configuration. It has ten mixing wells two very large in the lid and eight deep mixing wells. The paint tray has ample depth for holding pan or half pans ( W and N ) or squeezed paint.
The Cloverleaf paintbox was created by myself and Barry Herniman. On discussing the many problems of conventional palettes, over a cup of coffee in my kitchen we set about making one. Using a cereal packet as a model we took it to Design Village and met Peter Le Feurve. He created a 3D computer image, which was sent to a firm in England who did a laser cut model. Once we had this model in our hands and were satisfied that it worked it was sent to Proto Mold in England and production began. I assemble them, by hand, in my kitchen using stainless steel pins, to ensure the paintbox has a long working life. We now sell throughout the world.
Love, love, love this palette! I like that there are plenty of places on the palette to mix your paint, especially since with this palette I am working with a limited number of paints. The palette is really sturdy, closes tightly, but opens easily. It has deep wells and shallow wells, so I can do light washes as well as more concentrated mixing. I appreciate that the sectioned paint tray lifts out for easy cleaning.
Yes, this palette is a little larger than most travel palettes, but I’m using it around the house for that, five minutes here, and ten minutes there, when I have time concept.
A heads up.... if you like to switch out your paint colors (I do) a single half pan will fit in one well, one pan, not two. If you like whole pans, this palette works beautifully with Winsor Newton whole pans only.

This may be the last palette. It’s right in every way: packs small, light to hold, plenty of mixing area, holds a lot of paint, you can rest brushes on the outermost flap or even use it for a water reservoir. Get home, pull out the paint tray and rinse the rest in the sink. Brilliant design.
